Helping children unlock the power of reading & spelling

Reading therapy helps children become confident readers — whether they’re catching up, keeping up or just starting out.

Some children need extra support with reading or spelling. Others simply need a little boost to stay on track. And some are eager pre-readers, excited to get a head start.

Wherever your child is on their journey, I provide the tools, guidance, and encouragement to help them thrive.

WHAT IS READING THERAPY?

Reading therapy is a structured, supportive approach that builds confident readers step by step. Using the Phono-Graphix™ method—proven to be 98% effective—it equips learners with the sounds, skills, and strategies they need to read fluently and spell accurately.

Children move from learning to read (decoding, fluency, comprehension) to reading to learn, where they can absorb new information with ease.

This approach is powerful for struggling readers and ideal for younger children just starting their reading journey, helping them step into school with confidence.

At its heart, reading therapy is about opening doors—teaching children not just how to read, but also how to enjoy it.

WHO I WORK WITH

I support a wide range of learners, including:

  • Struggling Readers who need extra support to strengthen their reading and spelling
  • Learners with dyslexia who benefit from targeted strategies to support their learning journey
  • Pre-readers (ages 5–6) who are preparing for school, laying a solid foundation for learning

MY APPROACH

Step 1: Initial Reading Assessment

I begin with a reading assessment (English or Afrikaans) to understand your child’s current reading abilities and identify areas needing support.

Step 2: Report & Feedback

Parents receive a detailed written report, and the results, along with a clear plan for the months to come, are discussed in a feedback appointment.

Step 3: Weekly Therapy Sessions

  • One-on-one sessions (duration of 1 hour)
  • Once per week
  • Time allocation  based on availability
  • Minimum 12 sessions recommended for meaningful progress

Consistency is key in building reading skills. The goal is to create a supportive and encouraging space where children feel safe to make mistakes, try again, and grow in confidence as readers.

ABOUT ME

HI, I’M ADRI

I am a certified reading therapist, working from my office in Fairview Office Park and at selected schools in George, Western Cape. I’ve always loved languages, and you’ll usually find me with my nose in a book when I‘m relaxing – so I might think of myself as a little bit of a bookworm. Naturally, sharing the power of reading with children was the next step for me.

Parents often describe me as having a “no-nonsense” approach. I am, quite literally, an open book – straightforward, honest, and focused on results. One of my greatest joys is guiding children through their reading challenges and seeing their confidence start to bloom. There is nothing quite like the magical “aha moment” – when their eyes light up and they realise they can do it.

Whether I’m helping a Grade 1 student learn their first sounds or guiding a high school pupil to read with greater fluency, my goal is always the same: turning reading into a tool for success.

WHAT PARENTS CAN EXPECT

Every child’s journey is unique, but parents often value my approach because it offers:

  • A clear starting point through the initial assessment and feedback
  • Individualised support at their child’s pace with one-on-one attention
  • A safe, encouraging environment where mistakes are part of learning
  • Ongoing guidance and updates to stay involved in their child’s progress
